WestJet Street Party

Quinzy, originally uploaded by k4ren.

On Saturday afternoon, I happened upon the WestJet Street Party that was happening on Granville St. @ Robson that stretched for at least 3 blocks. There were a series of live bands performing on the main stage. Later that night was also the Earth Hour thing but oddly the street was not completely dark during those 60 minutes. .... so much for saving some electricity..

I only had my 5D with me because it was a sunny afternoon and I was planning on visiting Urban Outfitters. My "light" versatile pack is to bring the Canon 28mm and Leica 135mm lenses (the latter weighing like more than a pound). I don't have any zoom lenses :( so that's why I've got to bring at least two. From the distance I was standing, I really should have brought my Leica 90mm instead, and a 50mm instead of a 28mm... oh well :( I'll learn for next time. Lucky for me that there was that event going on so that I had the opportunity to practice some photography, manual focusing... but at the cost of deafening my ears... >.<

Also got stalked by this man with popcorn...

doodling...

doodling..., originally uploaded by k4ren.

I decided to put the tablet to some use so I started sketching/shading in the online oekaki program, got tired .. and screencapped it into Photoshop to finish later (added color and the left eye!) The way I drew this is probably not the *supposed* way because here I worked from one corner in detail and outwards. I think the proper way to draw is to really draft out the overall picture before adding any details. The Multiply blending option was helpful here in allowing me to add color when it was originally only black & white before.

Who does this look like? (haha probably no one because I wasn't thinking about anyone)

On another note, Sketchbook Pro is a really good sketching/doodling program! (from Autodesk/Alias!)
